In a groundbreaking moment for Indian television and the entertainment industry, renowned actress Rupali Ganguly, who portrays the beloved character Anupama in the popular television show “Anupama,” achieved a significant milestone by being featured on the official tweet of the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji.
On November , 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a video featuring Anupama and her on-screen family. The video not only showcased the talents of the actress but also highlighted a series of initiatives introduced by the government, with a particular focus on the “Vocal For Local” campaign. This initiative encourages Indians to embrace local consumption and support domestic industries.
Anupama, portrayed by Rupali Ganguly, takes centre stage in promoting local entrepreneurs online. She does this by posting photographs of their products and creations, thus extending her support to the cause of “Vocal For Local.”
The video shared by the Prime Minister also outlined specific actions that citizens can take to contribute to the #VocalForLocal movement. These actions include buying products locally, making payments using UPI, capturing a selfie with the purchased item along with the seller or artisan using a domestically manufactured smartphone, and subsequently uploading the selfie to the NAMO app.
The decision to use the character of Anupama for this initiative was strategic and well-received, given the immense popularity and relatability of the character. “Anupama” remains one of the most-watched and beloved television shows in recent memory, and Rupali Ganguly’s portrayal of the character has garnered widespread acclaim.
