MIG CC ‘A’ team record two victories

Mumbai, May 31: MIG Cricket Club ‘A’ team players combined well and scored two successive wins in Group-A league matches of the Suhas Nadkarni Memorial Yonex Sunrise Maharashtra State Open Badminton Tournament 2023, organized by the MIG Cricket Club under the auspices of the Maharashtra Badminton Association (MBA) and played at the MIG Cricket Club courts, Bandra on Wednesday.

In the first round, MIG ‘A’ defeated Masters Sports Club 3-0. Nikhil Kolhatkar and Prashant Bahatre overcame the spirited fight from Sachin Kshatriya and Zubair Sorathia clinching a close 30-25 win in the opening rubber. Later, Niranjan Sahane and Raghav Bhosale got the better of Mahesh Chhabria 30-18 to give MIG a 2-0 lead. In the third rubber Mangrish Palekar and Mayur Tawade easily defeated the Masters SC pair of Abhishek Sharma and Nigel D’Sa recording a 30-18 win.

Later, the MIG ‘A’ team continued with their impressive performances and blanked Mathoshri Sports Club 3-0 to register their second win in the 5-team group.

However, the MIG ‘B’ team were unable to raise their game and suffered defeats in both their matches. In the first match they went down fighting to Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana 0-3 and later lost to Navodaya by a similar score line.

MIG Cricket Club ‘A’ beat Mathoshri SC 3-0 (Nikhil Kolhatkar/Prashant Bahatre bt Rohit Kaul/Shailesh Singh 30-17, Niranjan Sahane/Raghav Bhosale bt Awanish/K. Krishnadas 30-13, Mangrish Palekar/Mayur Tawade bt Francis D’Souza/Ninad Shende 30-13).

Group-B: Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana bt MIG Cricket Club 3-0 (Ankit Shah/Jaideep Sampat bt Gautam Patki/Siddharth Nadkarni 30-15, Anis Badami/Yameer Sanghvi bt Ajit Nair/Sujit Kamble 30-14, Anand Vithalkar/Vipool Patel bt Ashwin Khanolkar/Mahesh Aras 30-18).

Navodaya beat Mig Cricket Club ‘B’ 3-0 (Briju P/Rakesh P.K. bt Siddharth Nadkarni/Sujit Kamble 30-6, Murukan E.V./Rajsinh Bhor bt Gautam Patki/Mahesh Aras 30-25, Avinash Ghode/Rakesh Raghavan bt Ajit Nair/Milind Ghate 30-19).
