Monday, August 27, 2018: P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre’s Rural Health Program – ‘Serve with Passion’, was adjudged the winner of the Rural Health Initiative category at the 2nd CSR Health Impact Awards 2018 held in New Delhi recently. The CSR Health Impact Awards 2018, is an initiative of the India Health & Wellness Summit, which recognizes organizations that focuses on health based CSR initiatives and movements by imbibing a responsible best practice leading to impactful health based programmes that have driven change and impacted millions of lives.
The award for Rural Health initiative category recognized the significant impact of P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre’s Rural Health Program – ‘Serve with Passion’ in making health awareness and healthcare accessible to the rural population of Jawhar Taluka in Maharashtra. Established in 1951 with the vision of ‘Quality Healthcare for All’, P. D. Hinduja Hospital & Medical Research Centre has always provided the highest standards of medical services to everyone in the society without any distinction. Smt. Lalita G Hinduja, daughter-in-law of Shri P. D. Hinduja, nurtured his vision, of ‘Quality Healthcare’ for all, for over 3 decades.
The ‘Serve with Passion’ Rural Health Program began in 2011 under the guidance of Shri. S. P. Hinduja, Chairman, Hinduja Group. The program provides the highest standards of healthcare services, free of cost to the poorest of communities in the rural areas of Jawhar taluka, Maharashtra, and has witnessed over 2.75 lakh patient visits till date. In September 2016, the Health Ministry of the State of Maharashtra also commissioned the program to conduct joint weekly outpatient clinics in the Primary Health Centres of Jawhar Taluka. The Serve with Passion Program is managed by Mrs. Usha Raheja, daughter of late Smt. Lalita & Giridhar Hinduja.

Hinduja Hospital’s Rural Health Program is to help in early detection of illness, prevention through health awareness and providing free primary care at the villages. Patients who require advanced care are brought to the hospital and provided treatment free of cost. This recognition is a result of the commitment of every individual working in the rural program. We are grateful to our group chairman, Shri. S. P. Hinduja, who has given us a true philanthropic program to channelize our emotions and energies and work towards our guiding principle, ‘Work to Give’. Hinduja Hospital stand committed to bridge and cement the enormous gap and disparity between urban and rural Health care and achieve greater heights in the service of humanity.”
The program is supported by a fleet of Basic and Advanced Mobile Health Units (MHUs), which are equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, GPS tracking system and medicines. The team of doctors, nurses and medical staff from the hospital travel along with the MHUs to provide quality care. To extend its reach and coverage, the program runs as hub and spoke model with the larger Advanced MHU’s operating as hubs and the smaller Basic MHU’s as the spokes to penetrate deep inside the hamlets / padas. At present the program has a fleet of 2 Advanced MHU’s, 5 Basic MHU’s and 4 specialty vans including Gynecology Ophthalmology, Physiotherapy and Pediatric Vans. As a part of prevention, the team takes a holistic approach by focusing on nutrition, safe water, health education and sanitation for all the patients and villagers.
