Our homes are meant to be a safe haven, but unfortunately, we end up bringing a lot of germs into our home that breed stealthily and enable spread of diseases. Germs are omnipresent. On the face of it, we clean our homes daily without realising that nooks and crevices in spaces like the toilet may continue to harbour pathogens that cause diarrhoea, abdominal pain, and vomiting, amongst other diseases. When it comes to bacteria and virus infestation, different areas of our home have different levels of risk, especially our bathrooms and floors, which are a breeding ground for germs. These are the areas that need to be cleaned thoroughly and frequently to prevent grime from settling in.

Bathroom Spaces –

It is easy to fall prey to diseases if bathrooms are not cleaned thoroughly or with the right product. The disease-causing organisms found in bathrooms can stubbornly stick around for days or weeks, breeding and multiplying in numbers. According to a study published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology, infectious organisms ranging from 1,000 to over 10,000 can be found in a dirty bathroom. Bathrooms are our personal hygiene havens, but with the accumulation of grime can become a source of bacteria like E. coli etc.

One core issue with Indian homes is that several toilets in India are enclosed, windowless spaces so odour becomes a problem. Further, consumers do not leave the toilet door open since they consider this space to be “impure”. Odour and germs/bacteria are the largest pain points when it comes to toilets, it is the most regularly witnessed concern and also a difficult one to solve for.

Another issues is the infrequent cleaning of toilets. According to a study undertaken by Domex, the hygiene brand from Unilever, 1/3rd of consumers clean their toilets every day, the others do it 2/3 times a week or even less frequently.  Few common toilet problems like limescale, soil, microbial film, and malodour are due to residual water on the toilet surface left even after flushing. This water (containing mineral and dirt) causes limescale to build up which subsequently act as a breeding ground for microbes and causes malodour. Prevention of water deposition by letting the water drain faster without leaving a layer on the toilet surface is critical to overcome these problems.

The Right ingredients to watch out for: Toilet cleaners have a role to play in addressing malodour or masking. A smelly toilet is considered unclean even though it may be visibly clean. One needs to ensure the product we use is armed with a superior surface modification technology that can last longer than usual toilet cleaners do. Such products come with surface modification technology that forms a protective layer on the toilet surface which continue to remain after many flushes. This protective layer prevents water sticking to the surface thereby overcoming many toilet related issues like malodour and limescale. Ensuring that our home is clean holds a paramount importance. Such cleanliness does not only mean visually clean but deep cleaning, to fend off infectious diseases. One of the basic steps, we can easily take towards ensuring a clean home is selecting a strong toilet disinfectant like Domex for our bathrooms where these germs breed the most. It is a powerful toilet disinfectant enabled with Fresh Guard technology that consists of surface modification molecules. This makes the surface hydrophobic or anti-stick to indicate capability to repel water. Applying such product would not just result into a fresh-looking toilet but also an odour free one with long lasting fragrance effect.

However, in order to effectively kill harmful microorganisms, we need to be cautious to ensure that our home remains a secure and healthy place. Observing general hygiene is also a key ingredient towards keeping ourselves and our family safe and in good health.
