Mumbai Football League – Sanika nets hat-trick in Rudra FC big win

Mumbai, July 21: Striker Sanika Patil was in excellent scoring form and notched up a fine hat-trick to power Rudra FA to a convincing 7-0 win against Ravens FA in a Women’s Super Div match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) Yuva President’s League – 2022-2023 and played at the Neville D’Souza Ground, Bandra on Friday.

Besides the brilliant efforts of Sanika, Jagruti Koli struck two goals while Nisha Patil and Samiksha Powar scored one each to complete the winning tally of goals.

Earlier, Somaiya SA and India Rush scored contrasting wins from their respective matches. In the opening match of the day, Somaiya SA called the shots against Rising Star Urban Angels and romped to a 5-0 win, while later India Rush got the better of Rising Sun FA by a narrow 1-0 margin.

Somaiya girl’s showed good understanding combined well as a team to dominate the match from the start. The Somaiya forwards also cashed in on the openings that came their way to score at regular intervals and run away to victory.

Somaiya SA scored the first three goals through Dnyeshwari Kokane, Riya Panchal and Shrushti Sawant all contributing one goal apiece before the energetic Meghna Jadhav scored two quick goals to round-off the winning tally of goals.

Later, Indian Rush produced a fighting performance and managed to stave off a spirited challenge from their opponents who did well to restrict them to just one goal. Striker Tanvi Karamble scored the decisive winning goal to secure India Rush win and pocket all the three points.

Meanwhile, the match scheduled to be played between Oscar Foundation and Young Guns FC ‘B’ was abandoned due to unplayable ground conditions. On account of incessant rains the ground was water-logged and referee Manish Patel decided to call off the match as the ball was not rolling on the surface.

Results – Women’s Super Div: Somaiya SA 5 (Meghna Jadhav 2, Dnyeshwari Kokane, Riya Panchal, Shrushti Sawant) beat Rising Star Urban Angels 0.

India Rush 1 (Tanvi Karamble) beat Rising Sun FA 0.

Rudra FA 7 (Sanika Patil 3, Jagruti Koli 2, Nisha Patil, Samiksha Powar) beat Ravens FC 0.

Dubai, Kerala teams to play in MFA Veterans League

Mumbai, July 21: A team from Dubai, UAE and one from Kerala will be competing for the top honours in the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) organized Veterans Football League (VFL) which is set to kick-off at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra from July 22, 2023.

“The two visiting teams from Dubai and Kerala have been directly drawn into the quarter-finals. They will be joined by six teams who will qualify from among the 15 local teams which will play in the initial phase of the tournament,” informed MFA Secretary, Sudhakar Rane.

The participating teams include, Central Railway HQ, Offshots SC, Thane Veterans, Juhu Akers, MYJ Sports Club, Golden Gunners, Mumbai Knights, Sunday Boys, Rudra FC, Madanpura SC, Ambernath United, Tarun Sporting, Pune Veterans, UK Football Club, Spartan Bombay Tigers.

The 15 Mumbai-based teams have been divided into three groups and will play on a league basis. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals.

“This is the second edition of the Veteran’s Football League and we are proud that teams from UAE and Kerala have shown interest in participating here, in our league. A team from Tamil Nadu and from some other states are also keen to participate, but due to time constraints we have not been able to accommodate the other teams. Maybe next season we will try to accept their entries as it would provide plenty of interest and excitement,” Rane further stated.

The teams – Group-A: Central Railway HQ, Offshots SC, Thane Veterans, Juhu Akers, Spartan Bombay Tigers.

Group-B: Golden Gunners, Mumbai Knights, Sunday Boys, Rudra FC, Madanpura SC.

Group-C: Ambernath United, Tarun Sporting, Pune Veterans, UK Football Club, MYJ Sports Club.
