Jyran – Tandoor Dining & Lounge; for those who enjoy a bit of drama, Sofitel Mumbai BKC presents its signature restaurant. Jyran means ‘lost love’ in Persian and the name is symbolic of the hope, new beginnings and emotions that follow. Inspired from the Northwest Indian Frontier, a land of warriors & poets, Jyran is designed with celebration and drama in mind. The interiors are complemented by intriguing influences from palace style windows to informal timber seating, and an imaginative blend of materials in an art-deco inspired dining area. An outdoor lounge area over a reflecting pool highlights three bowls of fire. An impressive recycled metal elephant sculpture weighing several tonnes, creates a dramatic icon that is intended to initiate conversation about the origin of the restaurant’s name, which was inspired by a heart-warming tale of a young boy named Jyran and how his friendship with an elephant taught him the lessons of life.
Jyran’s Chef de Cuisine Shamsher Ahmed has perfected the art of cooking in his career spanning over 20 years. The food at Jyran – Tandoor Dining & Lounge stands testimony to this and reveals a real mastery of flavours and textures that can be sensed in the delectable Raan Al Jyran – whole lamb leg marinated with Indian spices and cooked in a clay oven, the Mutton Awadhi Biryani – saffron flavoured rice preparation with lamb, or the exotic Chooza Makhni – tandoori chicken cooked in rich tomato gravy. For the vegetarian taste-buds, there are special dishes such as Kofta Subz Bahar – vegetable and cottage cheese dumpling in a rich sauce of tomato, onion, cashew nut gravy or the luscious Subz Miloni – a mixed vegetable dish cooked to perfection with spinach and carefully chosen spices to create the delicious flavour and aroma. A not-to-be missed dish is the Chef’s recommended dessert, Tabhakh Jamun – stuffed cottage cheese dumplings stewed in sugar syrup and topped with honey and dry fruits.
Over the years, Jyran has won several regional and international accolades for its cuisine and services including the World Luxury Restaurant Awards for Regional Cuisine at a Luxury Hotel.
The most recent award won by Sofitel Mumbai BKC’s signature restaurant was at the prestigious EazyDiner Foodie Awards 2017. Jyran – Tandoor Dining & Lounge was presented with “The Best Indian Restaurant in Hotel for the year 2017.”
