IIT Guwahati Placements begin with more than 200 Offers on Day One’s First Two Sessions The Entire Placements Process is being conducted online for the Second Consecutive Year; Top recruiters include Uber, Graviton, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, Schlumberger, and others.

GUWAHATI, 1st December 2021: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati’s Campus Placements for the 2021-22 Academic Year began on a robust note today (1st December 2021).A total of 200 offers were made by 38 Companies during Day One’s Sessions 1.1 and 1.2 (still ongoing) at IIT Guwahati as against 158 offers made by 43 companies at the end of Session 1.1 and 1.2 during the last academic year (2020-21) across IT/ Software Development Engineer, Data Science, Member Technical Staff, Quant, Core Engineer, Algorithmic Trader, Hardware, Analyst, Machine Learning, Business Analyst, Product Designer, Graphic Designer etc. job profiles. Multiple numbers of domestic offers above Rs 1.1 crore and one International Offer of Rs 2.0 Crore were made at the end of Session 1.2. The figures provided in the release are as on 04.00PM, 1st December 2021.

The big recruiters of this year’s first two Sessions include Uber, JP Morgan Chase, Schlumberger, Graviton, Microsoft, Apple, Google, Texas Instrument, Bajaj, Qualcomm, Goldman Sachs among others. Phase I of placements is expected to continue till 15 December 2021 at IIT Guwahati.  Session 1.1 of Placements at IIT Guwahati began at around 12 am while session 1.2 commenced at around 8 am. The Final Session of 1.3 will begin at 6 pm and is scheduled to conclude by midnight.

Elaborating on how the entire Placement process is being conducted online this academic year as well due to the impact of COVID-19, Prof. Abhishek Kumar, Head, Center for Career Development, IIT Guwahati, said, “While the majority of the students sitting for the placement are back to the campus, a significant portion of students are still away from the campus. Lessons learnt from the last years’ virtual placement process have helped us in better planning this year, so that students on-campus and off-campus both will not face any difficulty. Dr. Abhishek further added that all the stake holders of the placement process have prepared themselves for all possible issues which could likely arise in the process and have overcome the difficulties collectively. Further, the efforts of the students was highly appreciated who have participated in the ongoing placement process even in these difficult times, since they have successfully understood the companies requirement and prepared themselves to meet these demands. The current placement statistics will set new records this year positively, mentioned Prof. Abhishek.”

A total of 1160 students have registered for placements in the 2021-22 Academic Year, across different streams of study. The total number of companies registered for Phase I of Placements is around 200. They will be recruiting for a total of around 250 profiles. As many as 10 start-ups have registered for recruitment in the ongoing academic year 2021-22 along with 03 Public Sector Undertakings.

In addition, IIT Guwahati Students have already received as many as 179 Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) during the Academic Year 2021-22, which was the highest in the last three years. Most of the offers were in the sectors of Information Technology/Software, Finance, Analyst, and Product profiles.

Sharing his experience on the online placement process this year, a BTech student, in anonymity, from Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Guwahati, said, “Receiving the offer felt very surreal. All my efforts over the past few months had finally paid off. I had been exclusively preparing for this role for quite some time. I am extremely grateful to my parents, all my friends and everyone at IIT Guwahati who supported me in some way or the other. A special thanks to the placement team who gave me this wonderful opportunity and managed the entire placement process seamlessly.”

Prof. T. G. Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, while expressing great satisfaction, mentioned that the significantly higher number of placements and package this year is a result of the hard work of these students who have remained calm and composed even during these most uncertain phases of their lives and is definitely an encouraging indication that we are on a recovery path steadily. The nation looks up to these bright students who are ready to take up leadership roles in these national/multinational companies with the unique skill set they have developed while pursuing academics at IIT Guwahati and we are very proud of their achievements.

ABOUT IIT GUWAHATI: Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati established in 1994 has completed 25 years of glorious existence in 2019.
