Egypsio nets winner in ESIC narrow 1-0 win

Mumbai, June 9: ESIC (Employees State Insurance Corporation) worked hard and produced a dogged performance to snatch a narrow 1-0 win against Central Bank of India in an Elite (Corporate) Division encounter of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2022-2023 and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Friday evening.

Experienced striker Egypsio Noronha was ESIC’s hero and he scored the crucial winning goal which secured his team a well-deserved victory against Central Bank of India and to pocket all the three points.

In an evenly contested encounter, ESIC against the run of play stunned the Central Bank citadel when Noronha capitalized on a gilt-edged opening to fire home the decisive goal in the 15^th minute to give his team the lead.

Thereafter, Central Bank tried their best to find the equalizer, but their attempts were blunted by the ESIC defence or their strikers squandered some easy chances which led to their defeat.

In First Division matches, Storm Chasers and Vipul Gorai FC played out a 1-1 draw. Akshat Matal scored for Storm Chasers while Vipul Gorai FC scored through Chris Fernande.

In another match, Fr. Agnel Gymkhana and United City FC shared honours also in a 1-1 draw. For Fr. Agnel Gymkhana striker Vignesh Gundekar scored the lone goal while Prakyat Poojary struck the only goal for United City FC.

Results – Elite Div: ESIC 1 (Egypsio Noronha) beat Central Bank of India 0.

First Div: Storm Chasers 1 (Akshat Matal) drew with Vipul Gorai FC 1 (Chris Fernandes).

Fr. Agnel Gymkhana 1 (Vignesh Gundekar) drew with United City FC 1 (Prakyat Poojary).
