DRECORDS LAUNCHES A UNIQUE PROJECT ‘JEWELS OF MUSIC’

New Delhi, May 2021: Delhi based record label, DRECORDS, run by the Indian Pop Icon, Daler Mehndi and his filmmaker, architect and author wife Taran Mehndi are set out to launch a unique Project  “Jewels of Music”.

Talking about the new project, Daler Mehndi stated that he will be scouting talent and help them realize their dreams. For this project, Drecords team are looking for artists men and women, musicians, singers, composers, songwriters above the age of 40. Those who have never received a platform owing to circumstances in their lives, poor financial conditions, society hindrances, the reason could be any and they never got a chance to showcase their voice.This Pandemic has made time to reflect at various levels. According to the pop singer, this time is an OPPORTUNITY for the world’s biggest community – HUMANITY to come together, and amidst the pain and suffering, we have seen people come together as One.

With the ‘Jewels Of Music’, DRECORDS proudly present an incredible voice from Mandsaur, “Sugan Devi Gandharv”.  Sharing his experience in exploring talent like Sugan Devi, Daler Mendi said, “I had found Sugan Devi ji’s video as a whatsapp forward and I immediately got into action, requested my dear friend Rajat Sharma ji of India Tv, who got his team to act upon it. They found her for me and as Divine would have had it, I went to perform the same month in Madhya Pradesh for a government festival ahead of the forests of Jhabua. I not only met her there but also made a promise to release her album and shared my stage with her.” “The song ‘Dama Dum Mast Kalandar’ has recreated a magic with her voice. Please listen and allow space in your heart for her voice.” urges Daler Mehndi.

Sugan Devi learnt music from her late husband while doing household chores just listening to him sing, with the elders in the family, she was never permitted to sing in public but her husband although ensured she could listen to his riyaaz but with meagre finances and kids to raise, household responsibilities she could not make it to a stage.”shares Taran Mehndi, CEO of Drecords and wife of Daler Mehndi.

Babloo Mahender, the maverick music director and the rhythmist for films like Dangal, epic songs like Balle Balle, Bolo Ta Ra Ra and a 1000 other super hit songs, composed the foot-tapping music for Dama Dum Mast Kalandar, pushing Sugan Devi out of her comfort zone of singing bhajans. Sugan Devi beautifully renders Duma Dum with her rustic folk voice to the traditional song made famous by Runa Laila ji.  The song would be streaming online for music lovers to enjoy.
