Registration for Soldierathon Vijay Run closes on Thursday

Pune, November 28: In an effort to salute and recognize the selfless duties of the country’s soldiers, a race ‘Soldierathon Vijay Run’, is being organized by ‘Fitistan – Ek Fit Bharat’ at the College of Military Engineering (CME), Dapodi, Pune on Sunday, December 17, 2023. The Run is in honours of India’s wounded warriors and martyrs on 52nd Vijay Diwas day.

The Soldierathon Vijay Run is a celebration of heroism and victory of our Armed Forces over Pakistan in the 1971 war, and to commemorate the efforts and sacrifices of Indian soldiers who safeguard the country from enemy threats. December 16 is acknowledged as ‘Vijay Diwas’ day in the country, and this year the event is conducted on Sunday (December 17) which is closer to the actual day.

Every Vijay Diwas day, the Soldierathon is conducted across the nation through Fitistan captains in their communities at various scales while the flagship event is conducted in a military location.

The Soldierathon founded by Major Dr Surendra Poonia, VSM under the guidance of former President of India and Bharat Ratna, Dr APJ Kalam, whose aim was to honour India’s warriors and supporting them through raising funds for wounded soldiers/ martyrs families and the education scholarship for their bright children.

Civilians will have a rare opportunity to run shoulder to shoulder with soldiers and also experience the military way of life. The runners will get to mingle with nature as the CME route passes through three beautiful lakes and a scenic forest. CME Pune is one of the Indian Army’s finest premier institutions serving the nation since 1943.

Races will be held in three categories, 21 Kms – (Timed Run) – 18 Years and above; 10 Kms (Timed Run) – 14 Years and above and 5 Kms (Non-Timed Fun Run/ Walk) – 8 Years and above.

Every registered runner will get a Dry Fit T-Shirt, Goodie Bag, Achiever’s Medal, Race Certificate, Hydration, Nutritious Breakfast, Medical Support and Free Downloadable Photographs of the Marathon! There would also be cash awards for the winners in the 21-km and km categories.

Funds raised by Soldierathon Vijay Run will go to Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, Kirkee Pune where our wounded bravehearts are undergoing rehabilitation.
