IIT Mandi signs MoU with AIIMS Bilaspur; Collaborates for Academics and Research The aim of the collaboration is to develop an academic exchange and cooperation program in education and research

MANDI,December 2021: Indian Institute of Technology Mandi has collaborated with All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Bilaspur on Research and Academic Activities. The two institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at conducting joint research activities and academic exchange activities.
The MoU was signed in a meeting between Prof. Ajit Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Mandi; Dr. Vir Singh Negi, Director, AIIMS Bilaspur, and Dr. Venkata Krishnan, Dean (SRIC), IIT Mandi. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Vikrant Kanwar, Dy. Medical Superintendent AIIMS Bilaspur and some faculty members from IIT Mandi.
Under this MoU, both the institutions plan to work on joint research projects and involve in short-term joint academic programs in the future providing the researchers and students an opportunity to visit and work collaboratively with the other Institution.
Speaking about the collaboration, Prof. Ajit K. Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Mandi, said, “the collaboration between IIT Mandi and AIIMS Mandi we are looking forward to jointly work and excel in the field of medical sciences for the betterment of society at large.”

Joint international conference, workshop and seminar of medical and public health

Exchange of information on teaching and other literature relevant to educational and research programs

To link both sides of medical industry, device and equipment, based on mutual agreements, and as per existing laws
The joint research and academic collaboration activities under this MoU will cater to various domains related to medical science and technology including Medical imaging, Digital Pathology, Point-of-care testing devices, Bioinformatics, Endocrinology, Biomaterials, Telemedicine, among others.
During the MoU signing event at IIT Mandi, the two institutions also discussed the future scope of translation of technology in collaboration with industry partners to ensure that the benefits of the research reach the society at large.
About IIT Mandi: IIT Mandi has four Academic Schools and three major Research Centers. The Schools are: School of Computing and Electrical Engineering, School of Basic Sciences, School of Engineering, and School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Centers are: Advanced Materials Research Centre (AMRC; set up with an investment of Rs. 60 crores), Centre for Design and Fabrication of Electrical Devices (C4DFED; has Rs. 50 crores worth of fabrication tools), and BioX Centre (has acquired research equipment worth Rs. 15 crores).
The unique, project-oriented B.Tech. curriculum is centred around its 4-year long Design and Innovation stream. From August 2019, IIT Mandi started 3 new and unique B. Tech. programmes in Data Science and Engineering, Engineering Physics, and Dual Degree in Bioengineering. Since the inception of the Institute, IIT Mandi faculty have been involved in over 275 Research and Development (R&D) projects worth more than Rs. 120 crore.
IIT Mandi set up the IIT Mandi iHub and HCI Foundation (iHub; a section-8 company) on its campus at Kamand with significant funding of INR 110 crores from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The iHub is planned to fuel research and technology development, skill development, startup and innovation, and collaborations in the HCI and allied AI/ML areas in India. IIT Mandi is the only second-generation IIT to be featured at rank no. 7 in the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements of the Innovation Cell, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.
