by Prashant Kapaddia/NHN

Mumbai: Virgin EMI, home to a stellar line up of contemporary artists including Florence + The Machine, Emeli Sande, Bastille, The Vamps, MNEK, James Bay to name a few, has a strong plan in place to take artists of Indian origin beyond just the Asian diaspora, well into the mainstream music audiences. Anushqa is one of the label’s picks who will be the focus of a combined effort between Virgin EMI in London and Universal Music India, to help bring an Indian artist to a global audience with her debut international single“Something In Common” that drops worldwide TODAY!

Ted Cockle, President, Virgin EMI Records said: “Anushqa is an artist with a killer voice, youthful beauty, and an overall vibe that matches up with the best global pop talent.  She has such infectious energy that the journey with her will be so much fun too.  This is a true first of India and the UK, combining efforts in the modern pop landscape!”

Devraj Sanyal, MD & CEO, Universal Music Group India and South Asia said, “I’ve always believed in Anushqa’s talent ever since I signed her about 24 months ago, but to have the full support of Ted and his team at Virgin EMIis what makes this project Special. The single “Something In Common” is a culmination of a concerted joint effort between both teams and the output is simply brilliant – a mainstream international sounding track that retains her ethnic roots. I’m confident that this is the beginning of a very exciting journey for Anushqa and we are proud to be leading it ahead along with Virgin EMI!”

The label dropped Anushqa’s “Ecstasy” as a taste maker last month, which got rave reviews and radio plays in the UK. However, the stage is now set for the release of “Something In Common” – a sexy upbeat pop / dance track with an ethnic vibe to it, retaining Anushqa’s identity. The track is written and composed by Rishi Rich, Anushqa and Naamless and produced by Rishi Rich, Naamless and Loose Change (UK).

The stunning and visually appealing music video to “Something In Common”, shot in London by cutting edge British director duo Sophia + Robert will drop on 29th August`18.

Anushqa broke out on the music scene with the first season of India’s only English singing talent show `The Stage’ where she was a finalist.  With her powerful and confident performances, Anushqa stunned audiences as well as the judges, Vishal Dadlani, Monica Dogra, Ehsaan Noorani and Devraj Sanyal.  She also wrote and performed on a couple of tracks for Bollywood director Mohit Suri’s last venture `Half Girlfriend’.
