Mumbai 10th June 2019: Universal Music has launched Anushqa’s new single “Woman Like Me,” a track that celebrates the upliftment and empowerment of women from everywhere. After the success of “Ecstasy” and “Something In Common,”“Woman Like Me” is her newest offering. “Woman Like Me,” is Anushqa’s latest release, conceived with an urban Indian influenced groove. “Woman Like Me,” embarks on the journey of a woman’s realization of her self-worth after being taken for granted, repeatedly. The song instils strength and courage within the listener to stand tall and look ahead.
Anushqa said, “I’m really excited about releasing “Woman Like Me” on my birthday. Every song I write, reflects a small part of me and I hope it strikes a chord with my listeners. I have always incorporated a little piece of my country, India, in the soundscape of all my music which has now become my signature sound & something I hope my fans & audiences worldwide can identify with or simply love due to its uniqueness. The fact that I’m able to collaborate with some legendary songwriters & producers from across the world, allows me to raise my game to a level I haven’t before & my team at Universal Music is just amazing to be able to get all of this done, in a way no one else can. I truly hope the song gives everyone the courage to put themselves first and move on.”
Speaking of “Woman Like Me,” Devraj Sanyal, Managing Director and CEO of Universal Music & EMI Music, India & South Asia shares, “Anushqa is one of my favourite artists simply because she is one of the strongest singer-songwriters in our stable of enormously talented artists both from local languages & English. From the day I signed her, she has matured tremendously as an artist and today with the launch of “Woman Like Me,” I’m confident that she is finally at the level where, she begins her journey to tackle a globally cluttered but massively dynamic streamscape, where a hit can come from virtually anywhere. Co-written by Anushqa, the enormously talented Victoria Naicka Richard and Peder Etholm Idsøe, the track is truly global in its creation. I would love for this single to reach people everywhere.”
About ANUSHQA: ANUSHQA broke out on the music scene in the first season of India’s only English singing talent hunt show `The Stage’ where she was a finalist on Season 1. With her powerful and confident performances, ANUSHQA stunned audiences as well as the judges, Vishal Dadlani, Monica Dogra, Ehsaan Noorani and Devraj Sanyal. She also wrote and performed on a couple of tracks for Bollywood director Mohit Suri’s last venture `Half Girlfriend’. Since being with Universal Music, ANUSHQA, though still regarded as an emerging artist; has had International Hits with her Debut “Ecstasy” and her follow-up release of “Something In Common”.
