Majhi nets winner in Iron Born win

Mumbai, January: Iron Born FC produced a determined fighting performance and managed to eke out a narrow 1-0 win against Mumbai Strikers SC in an Elite Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra on Friday.
After a barren first half, the young Iron Born outfit struck the lone goal through the solid effort of Rahul Majhi in the fifth minute of the second half. Thereafter, the Iron Born side defended well to hang on to that advantage and emerge victorious.
Earlier, Mumbai Knights-JMJ Sports Club got the better of GM Sports Club by a 3-1 margin. Vinodkumar Pandey, Shailesh Jadhav and Saurabh Nikam all scored a goal each for JMJ Sports Club while GM Sports Club got one through Sudhakar Ranjan.
Results – Div-II quarter-final play-offs: South Mumbai United 7 (Rajveer Kesari, Omkar Shinde, Kazim Rizvi, Jonathan Poojari, Prem Choudhary, Shubham Kadam, Hitharth Mandekar) beat SC Chincholi 6 (Keval Doshi 2, Shivanshu Pandey, Akshat Tiwari, Lionel Caldeira, Shivesh Painully) via the sudden death tie-breaker. Full-time: 1-1.
Elite Div: Mumbai Knights JMJ Sports Club 3 (Vinodkumar Pandey, Shailesh Jadhav, Saurabh Nikam) beat GM Sports Club 1 (Sudhakar Ranjan).
